Dumpers surf guide

Dumpers is a surf spot that gets its name from the garbage dump located just across the road. While the scenery might be overshadowed by this unsightly feature, the surf here can attract those looking for a challenge. The wave generally caters to experienced surfers, so be prepared for a ride that's not for the faint-hearted.

The waves at Dumpers are typically short and hollow, often leading to technical rides that can feel like a drop into a pit. On bigger days, the Inside Dumpers can offer longer rides with less square tubes and more walls, though it's still fast and requires skill. The optimal swell direction is from the northeast, but it also handles swells from the north and east. The spot works well with swell sizes starting at around 2ft (0.6m) and breaks over uneven reef, making it suitable for expert surfers looking to test their skills on left-breaking waves. Winds from the west and varying tide heights—low, mid, and high—are preferred for the best conditions.

It’s also important to note that the reef at Dumpers is extremely sharp, so wearing booties is highly recommended to protect your feet. Make sure you’re prepared before heading out, as this spot demands respect and skill.
