El Burro surf guide

El Burro is a surf spot located on the east coast, making it a decent option, especially during the summer months. The spot is known for its soft beach sand that hides a hard reef underneath. You can find it where the road passes close to the beach, just south of the hotel strip. It’s also referred to as Glass Beach due to its unique appearance. This location attracts both local surfers and visitors looking for some waves, but be mindful, there are urchins in the water and some kite surfers in the afternoons.

The surf here is mostly a reef break that works best on larger north swells and west winds, handling sizes around 3ft (about 0.9 meters). You can catch waves breaking to the left and right, so there’s something for both goofy and regular footers. While lower tides tend to make the A-frames hollow, the waves are generally more suited for intermediate surfers. However, with the right conditions, beginners can still paddle out and have some fun.

As for the environment, there are rock walls nearby that provide some shelter from wind, making it a comfortable spot to hang out when you’re not in the water. There’s a snack bar for quick bites and lifeguards on duty, plus options for board rentals if you didn’t bring your own. Overall, El Burro offers a blend of surfing and relaxation, but it’s not the most consistent spot, so checking the conditions beforehand is a smart move.
