Enniscrone surf guide

Enniscrone is a long strand beach located just west of the small town of Enniscrone. It’s a spot that attracts all sorts of surfers, from beginners to more experienced folks, thanks to its diverse wave options. The beach is quite spacious, which means even on busy summer days, you can usually find a spot to spread out. Parking is available in the town lot, and it's a quick walk to the beach from there.

The surf here can be fun, especially with the right conditions. It mainly breaks right over a mix of sand and some uneven reef, handling swell sizes from about 1 meter (3 feet) up to 2.5 meters (8 feet). You’ll want to look for a solid north swell to really get the best waves. Mid to high tide tends to work best, while the optimal swell direction is from the north or northwest. Be aware that when the waves are bigger, it can be tricky getting out past the break, so beginners should stick close to the harbor for smaller waves before venturing further down the beach.

In addition to the surf, Enniscrone offers some nice features. With a surf school available, it’s a great place for novices to learn. The gently shelving sands make it beginner-friendly, and you'll also see a lot of kiters enjoying the area due to the regular cross-onshore winds. Whether you’re on a shortboard, fish, funboard, or longboard, there’s something for everyone here. Just keep in mind that there can be rips further down the beach and strong currents on bigger days, so stay aware of the conditions.
