Epao, also known as White Cows, is a right-hand reef break tucked into a small cove on Vanuatu's east coast. The wave peels right over live coral, and the sheltered cove helps it stay smoother for longer when the southeast trades are blowing.
When It Works
Epao draws swell from the northeast through southeast, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. The reef is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It can be somewhat inconsistent, so it rewards timing your session to the right pulse.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the southwest (SW). The reef comes to life on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers stepping onto a reef. Expect a quiet lineup, and be ready for solo sessions, as the east coast breaks tend to see little company.
