Overview
Faaroa is a right-hand reef break on the east coast, peeling over live coral.
When It Works
The pass draws swell from the northeast through southeast and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Like the other east coast passes, Faaroa feeds on windswell, so it comes together erratically rather than on any dependable schedule. When the swell does line up, you get a rippable right off the reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Crowds are almost never an issue. Hardly anyone surfs these east coast passes, so on the days it turns on you'll likely have plenty of room to yourself.
