Faganeanea is a left-hand reef break that peels over live coral across the bay. It can turn on quite sectiony, so the wave rewards patience and reading the shelf.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southeast to south (SE-S), and the lefts really come alive on a southeast swell that can run down the shelf. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, giving you plenty of range once a swell fills in. Consistency is the catch here: the spot is somewhat inconsistent, so it takes the right setup to line up rather than turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind, which is what grooms the lefts on the right day, though that wind is a rare visitor. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, so the live-coral reef and sectiony walls are best left to surfers who can handle a fast, shallow break. When it does work, expect a fairly quiet lineup.
