Fin Fucker is a left-hand point break that peels over boulders near the most westerly point of the North Island, with more lefts running out toward the lighthouse. It isn't the best shaped left along this coast, but it is often the biggest, throwing chunky walls with real power once there is size behind it.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and as a consistent, decent-quality point it comes into its own as the swell builds.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. The point breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
