Overview
Five Papas is a V-shaped reef that peels both left and right, with a wall running off each side of the reef. It breaks over dead coral.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from the south through southwest, and southwest (SW) swell is the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Sitting on a southwest-facing coast, it's only moderately consistent, so it pays to be there when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The wave comes alive at mid tide and holds through high, with a rising tide usually the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay quiet when it's working.
Access
The little village of Moya makes the handiest base, with two breaks working right in front of the hotel.
