Overview
Flat Rock is an isolated beach break south of Geraldton, breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand and offering both lefts and rights. It sits among the sandy reef clusters that run along the dune-backed coastline near Seven Mile beach, and the setting is remote and sharky.
When It Works
Flat Rock draws swell from south through west, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's a consistent break that works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. When a head-high or bigger southwest swell is running alongside an east wind, plenty of options open up along this stretch of coast.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The break can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Afternoon winds here tend to blow strong and can wreck the surf, so the cleaner window is usually earlier in the day.
Local Tips
Flat Rock suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, and keep in mind that locals are protective of the area.
