Overview
Flic en Flac is a reef break on Mauritius that peels both left and right over live coral.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with northwest swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and is moderately consistent, so you can count on worthwhile windows without expecting waves every day. When the swell is small and clean, a few rideable spots sometimes show up on the barrier reef offshore.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. Keep an eye out for rips that can drag you onto the coral heads and rocks, which are peppered with urchins.
