Overview
Forari Bay is a remote reef break that peels left over live coral. The main draw is a run of fast, hollow lefts, though the bay also holds a right on its south side that is well worth a look despite how far out it sits.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast through southeast, with northeast the best direction, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It is moderately consistent overall, but the fast, hollow lefts only fire when a rare combination of east swell and the right wind lines up, so that version is elusive. When the lefts are not on, the right on the south side of the bay is the more dependable option.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind blows from the west, and that is exactly what switches on the hollow lefts. The south-side right, meanwhile, stays cross/offshore in the trade winds. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
