Forte Dei Marmi - Pontile Surf Forecast Guide

Forte Dei Marmi - Pontile, known locally as Il Ponte, is a sand-bottom break right beside the pier in the centre of Forte Dei Marmi. The sand banks on either side of the pier can occasionally throw up powerful walls with the odd barrel, though the banks are unpredictable and the wave is often poor quality.

When It Works

Il Ponte is ultra-consistent, which is a big part of why it pulls surfers from all over Northern Italy. It draws swell from southwest through northwest, with southwest swell the best match, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. The banks peel both left and right. It even holds up in moderate southwest onshore winds, so there are usually rideable days on offer.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast offshore wind to clean things up. The break can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This one suits intermediate surfers. Side currents and shore-pound make it a poor choice for beginners. Expect a busy lineup whenever it's on, as it's always very crowded.

Access

Access is easy straight off the pier. There's a surf school and surf shop nearby, plus free and roadside parking. To get here, leave the Genova-Livorno highway at the Versilia exit; the pier sits in the centre of town. Water quality is poor.
