Overview
Foum el Oued is a long beachbreak on the La Corniche stretch, a short drive from Laayoune in Western Sahara. It sits in the swell shadow of the Canary Islands, so flat spells are common.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from the southwest through to north (SW-N), with north (N) the standout direction. It needs a southwest or north swell to break, then peels both left and right over sand. The spot is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The waves here suit intermediate surfers.
Access
Getting there is straightforward, roughly 25km from Laayoune (El Aaiun), Western Sahara's unofficial capital. Parking is free, including roadside spots.
