Freswick Bay is a sheltered bay with a couple of different setups worth knowing. At low tide it throws up beachbreak peaks, and on mid tide a right peels off the rocks at the south end of the bay. It breaks over a mix of rock ledge and sand, with both lefts and rights on offer.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from northeast through southeast (NE-SE), with northeast swell the best match. It is an inconsistent spot that needs a big NE or SE swell before it starts working, so pick your windows. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. The bay can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay quiet even when it is on.
Access
Park at the end of the northern access lane by the beach, where parking is roadside.
