Garbanzo is the most popular break around, a live-coral reef that peels long, consistent lefts with the occasional right. It stays easy and forgiving when the surf is small, then grows serious as the size comes up, and it holds that size well.
When It Works
Garbanzo draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast, with northeast the best match. Along the deeper reef you'll find enticing walls and ramps, mostly running left with occasional rights. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, mellow at the small end and taking on real power once it fills in. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to be ready when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to groom it clean. The reef works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is the locals' go-to spot, so expect company in the water when it's on. It suits intermediate surfers and tends toward a moderately busy lineup on the good days.
Access
Getting in and out around low tide means some careful reef dancing over urchin-studded fire coral, so time your entry and exit well. There's free roadside parking nearby.
