Garie Beach Surf Forecast Guide

Garie Beach is the main coastal access point for the Royal National Park and a genuine swell magnet, set in one of the prettiest stretches of coast around. Waves break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, throwing up both lefts and rights, and the sand-dependent banks run all the way south to Little Garie.

When It Works

Garie is very consistent and draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with northeast swell the best match. The lefts fire off the northern headland, while the banks down the beach shift with the sand. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so there's a wide window to play with. Peaky small summer swells paired with light winds are the pick of the conditions here.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest offshore wind to clean things up. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a forgiving, beginner-friendly beach, but the rips can get horrendous, so keep an eye on them before and after you paddle out. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. If you want fewer bodies in the water, North Era just to the south has a left off the point that tends to be quieter. Further along, Burning Palms is a shorter beach that gets easily overwhelmed once the swell picks up past moderate.

Access

You walk everywhere from the main car park, where parking is paid. There are restrooms, showers, and camping on hand, and North Era has a walk-in, tent-only campground. Sort out your day entrance fee or grab an annual NSW National Parks membership before you go.
