Coalcliff is a beach break that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand, offering both lefts and rights. Plenty of banks can have their day here, but the peak in front of the car park is the only one you can really rely on. Watch out for rocks up and down the beach.
When It Works
Coalcliff draws swell from northeast through southeast (NE-SE), with east swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and is moderately consistent, so you'll find rideable days without it turning on every session. The Ledge by the pool can get sucky and intense on east swell and low tide, and every so often the point lines up into it. The big Bommie left is fluky, and the rest of the beach banks tend to be average.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
In small swell it's an easygoing wave that suits all abilities, making it a solid option for beginners. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
