Gerickes Point surf guide

Gerickes Point is a surf spot located near Sedgefield, known for its unique left pointbreak. It’s best experienced during small summer swells, typically handling sizes around 2ft (0.6m). Located on a volcanic rock shelf, the break can be quite fast and punchy, making it a preferred spot for experienced surfers. However, it can easily get overwhelmed by larger swells, particularly from the SW, which might require a bit of a hike to reach other breaks further along the coast.

The wave at Gerickes Point delivers its best vibes with an optimal swell direction coming from the Southeast, while it can also handle swells from the East and Southwest. The preferable wind direction is from the Northeast, and the waves can be surfed at various tide heights, including low, mid, and high. Being a point break, it offers left-hand waves that are ideal for those looking to carve and ride. However, it is important to note that this spot is generally suited for expert surfers, especially since it can get quite challenging when the conditions change.

Access to the break requires a decent walk, so be prepared to spend some time getting out there. If you’re planning on surfing here, keep in mind that the nearby beach breaks at Sedgefield and Groenvlei are often pretty average, so Gerickes Point is a solid choice for more exciting surf. Be ready for some local bodyboarders who frequent this spot, especially on days when the SE windswells roll in nicely.
