Goat Rock Surf Forecast Guide

Goat Rock is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right. It was once an offshore sea stack, until a paved causeway built in the 1920s tied the rock to the mainland.

When It Works

The break draws swell from south through north (S-N) and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The south-side cove is the pick of it, holding some decent sandbar peaks that come alive on a smallish, peaky south swell. It is not a stellar break, but it is good enough at times to be worth pulling on a thick 5 mm wetsuit for the cold water.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The cove sits semi-sheltered from northwest wind, so it can still be worth a look when that direction is blowing. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, while the cove in particular sharpens up at low tide.
