Overview
Golden Sand Beach is a sand-bottomed beachbreak sitting right on the main coast road of Huangdao, serving up both lefts and rights. It isn't a standout wave, but it catches more swell than Shilaoren thanks to an open window to northeast swell.
When It Works
Swell arrives from northeast through east-southeast to south, and southeast is the best match. The beach works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It's moderately consistent, with winter the most likely window for northeast swell, so pack proper rubber: the Yellow Sea can drop to 4ºC.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. All three tides can produce, but a rising tide is the call here, since the extra water pushes a bit more power into the waves.
Local Tips
The gentle beachbreak setup suits beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
Access
Getting here from Qingdao means a ferry across the harbour mouth. Once you're on Huangdao, the beach is on the main coast road.
