Jinsha Beach, Shengsi Island surf guide

Jinsha Beach is located on Shengsi Island, about 3 kilometers south of the main town, Caiyuan. It’s a nice spot to check out if you're in the area. Getting there involves a bit of travel—from Shanghai, you’ll drive for about 2 hours to Luchao Port, then take a 3.5-hour ferry ride to Shengsi. The beach is right above a pagoda perched on the cliff, making it a pretty unique location.

The surf here mainly offers slow-peaking waves over a sandy bottom. You can find both left and right-handers that break well, particularly when the swell comes from the northeast, which is the optimal direction. The spot can handle swell sizes at around 1 foot (0.3 meters). It’s generally best to hit the waves during low to mid tide, but it can work at high tide too. This makes Jinsha Beach a decent place for beginners looking to learn and practice, as the waves aren’t too aggressive.

While the beach offers some fun options for novice surfers, keep in mind that the waves can sometimes be less than ideal. The wind tends to blow from the south, which you’ll want to keep an eye on. Overall, if you're in the area and want to catch some easy-going waves, Jinsha Beach is worth a visit.
