Overview
Goroneddu is an A-frame reef break that peels both left and right over an uneven reef. Once one of Sardinia's better-kept secrets, it's still a spot that's genuinely hard to find. The inside throws fast, sucky barrels, so it rewards surfers who can commit to a heavy section.
When It Works
Goroneddu draws swell from west through north, and it's at its best on a northwest (NW) swell. The longer left really comes to life on northwest swells up to 3 m, while the peak keeps offering a rippable right. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so there's a wide working range as long as the swell has the right angle.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind, since onshore conditions flatten the wave and make it unsurfable. It can break across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an experts-only wave, thanks to the fast, hollow inside and the uneven reef underneath. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and be mindful of the locals as well as strong currents and sea urchins on the reef.
Access
Finding it is half the challenge. Follow the Gonnesa-Portoscuso coastal road, pass the Fontanamare-Masua crossroad, and take the second road on the right. As soon as you see the water, park on the right side of the street and walk the trail down. There's free roadside parking to leave the car.
