Grand-Lahou sits west of Abidjan in a tourist zone, offering sandy beachbreaks plus a 'passe' where a sandbank holds a decent right and a left. Waves break over sand and peel both ways, so there's usually a peak worth paddling for.
When It Works
Swell arrives from south to southwest, and south is the direction that lines things up best. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It's a consistent setup, so there tend to be waves on offer more often than not.
Wind and Tide
Look for north offshore wind to clean things up. Grand-Lahou can work through low, mid, and high tide, but a rising tide is the better call, and the sandbank at the passe is at its best on the incoming.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. The lineup stays fairly quiet, so you shouldn't have much company on a good day. Keep an eye out for rips, and be aware that pollution is a factor here.
