Overview
Gruissan is a sand-bottomed beach break on the Aude coast, breaking along the stretch right of the harbour entrance in front of the wooden toy-town holiday homes. It picks up both lefts and rights and can hold a bit of size when there's swell in the water.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from east to south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best match, and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft. Consistency is on the patchy side, and most of the action lands in winter, with locals counting around 60 surf days a year. Small, clean waves come on when the Tramontane blows offshore and a low pressure system sits between Spain and Corsica. When it's flat here, there are often more waves near the jetty at Narbonne to the north.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Gruissan suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.

There's a car park with free parking, along with restrooms, showers, camping, and a lifeguard on hand.
