Hawaiisito, or Little Hawaii, is a reef break on the east side of Palmar Beach, where the boulders start to get bigger. Despite the name it favours lefts, breaking over an uneven reef, though it will also peel right. The waves are often weak and crumbly, but that makes it a fun, forgiving ride for just about any type of surfcraft, and it's a fairly safe setup for everyone except complete novices.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through southwest, with a south swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and won't hold much above head high. Consistency is moderate, so it comes with worthwhile windows rather than waves every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The peaks suit intermediate surfers best. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
Hawaiisito is easy to reach on the east side of Palmar Beach. You'll find camping, a surf school, and a surf shop nearby, plus a mix of free, paid, and roadside parking.
