Headlands surf guide

Headlands is a surf spot that attracts surfers looking for some action. It's known for its righthander that breaks over a rock ledge, offering a mix of barrels and challenging sections. The crowd can get pretty thick since good days here are not that common, but even on mediocre days, there’s usually a chance to catch some decent waves.

The waves at Headlands tend to work best with east swells, but you can also find rides with northeast and south swells. It handles swell sizes starting from 3ft (about 0.9 meters) and can offer some fun rides. At lower tides, you’ll want to be prepared for a sudden bowl section that can really suck you in, especially with northeast swells. On the other hand, south swells generally wrap in a more manageable way, making it easier to dodge the thick bodyboarders chasing the heavier sections of the break. This spot is really suited for expert surfers due to its demanding nature.

If you're planning to head out, keep in mind that southwest winds are preferred, and it can work well at high, mid, and low tides. Just be aware that when it’s firing, it can get crowded fast, so arrive early to snag a good spot in the lineup.
