Thirroul surf guide

Thirroul is a laid-back surf spot located along the southern part of the New South Wales coastline. It’s known for its consistent beach breaks that offer a decent option for surfers of all levels. Whether you're looking to paddle out for some fun waves or just want to enjoy the seaside vibe, Thirroul has what you need, especially during the summer when the crowds come out to play.

The surf at Thirroul can be pretty enjoyable, with nice peaks available up and down the beach for various swell sizes. The optimal swell direction is from the NorthEast, although it can handle swells from the South too. The waves generally break over sand and can range from 1 ft (0.3 m) to bigger sizes, depending on the conditions. Both left and right waves can be found here, making it versatile for all levels, including beginners. For the best sessions, aim for days with low to mid tides, but you can still catch some hollow shore breaks at higher tides if the swell is right. It’s also beneficial to have a NorthWest wind for cleaner waves.

Thirroul’s beach breaks provide plenty of space, which can be a relief during the summer when surfers flock to popular spots. This means it’s possible to find your own section of the beach to enjoy your session without feeling crowded. So, whether you’re just starting out or looking for a chill spot to surf, Thirroul has a little something for everyone.
