Sharkies surf guide

Sharkies is a surf spot that offers a mix of reef and sand for surfers looking to catch some waves. It's generally known for being beginner-friendly but can offer enough challenge for intermediates. The vibes are laid-back, making it a chill place to spend a day in the water. You’ll often find locals and regulars, which creates a friendly atmosphere.

The peak at Sharkies works best when the swell comes from the East, especially with NorthEast or South swells. You'll catch lefts in NE swells and rights when the South swell rolls in. The waves typically handle sizes around 2 to 6 feet (0.6 to 1.8 meters) and break over an uneven reef and sand. It’s good for intermediate surfers, and you can ride the waves at low, mid, and high tides. For optimal conditions, a west wind is preferred, ensuring a smoother ride.

If you’re keen on exploring, check out Thommo's fun left on the northern headland during NE swells; it can be a solid alternative when Sharkies gets busy. It’s always cool to have a backup spot to avoid crowds.
