Horseshoe is a ledgy, high-quality reef peak that breaks left and right over a shallow rock ledge. It's a heavy wave with jagged reef and little room for error, so this one is strictly for experts. It doesn't fire often, but it's well worth the wait when it does.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and strong west swells are what really light it up. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and a solid swell is what brings out the best of the ledge.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to clean it up. The reef is best on mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, especially when a solid swell is running.
Local Tips
This is an experts-only wave, and the shallow, jagged reef leaves almost no margin for mistakes. Expect edgy locals in the lineup.
Access
