Overview
Humewood is a right-hand sandbank that sets up around the derelict pylons on Humewood Beach. It breaks over sand and, on its day, throws thick, throaty tubes for bodyboarders and stand-up surfers with the nerve to make the vertical drop.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and small to medium southeast swell is when it really turns on. A southwest swell can also wrap in once it gets big enough. Expect moderately consistent conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The bank can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, and that vertical drop rewards surfers who commit. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and be ready for the odd hassle from the lifeguards and locals.
Access
Plenty is on hand nearby: restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop. For parking you'll find a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options.
