Hungry is a consistent reefbreak with long, quality walls that can peel for rides of up to 200m. It breaks over an uneven reef, usually as a lefthander, though it also swings right when the swell gets big.
When It Works
The break draws swell from the northeast around to the southeast, and a northeast swell is the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and with a consistent reef underneath it turns on reliably across that range.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to clean it up. The reef fires on low tide and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, so it rewards surfers who can handle a long, fast wall. Expect a busy lineup with a handy crew of locals when it's on, and plan for a long paddle out from the north end of the tetrapods.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, along with roadside parking nearby.
