Icarai is one of Ceara's most consistent and strongest beachbreaks, sitting on the exposed coast near Caucaia in Brazil. It breaks over sand and peels both left and right, occasionally throwing short, sucky barrels before an inevitable close-out. It's a regular WQS contest site. Just to the north, Cumbuco ranks among the area's best kite and windsurfing spots, which tells you plenty about how open this stretch of coast is to the elements.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northwest through north to east, and it's happiest on a northeast swell. It picks up and handles just about any size, working from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is one of its strong suits, so you can usually count on something to ride.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind to clean up the faces. The bank works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The beachbreak is approachable enough for beginners, but expect a very busy lineup when it's on, especially given its status as a contest venue.
Access
You'll find restrooms and lifeguards on hand. Parking is easy, with a car park offering free spaces alongside paid and roadside options. Check the surf by Casa Amarela Restaurant or over at Cata-Vento.
