Overview
Ichinomiya is a stretch of powerful beachbreaks that break over sand and peel both left and right. South of town, T-shaped breakwaters shape a diverse set of peaks, including Torami and Shidashita, so there's something for everyone when it's small and plenty to work with for experts on the bigger days. One honest caveat: the water here isn't clean, with brown, discolored water and industrial waste that frequently pollutes the beach.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with northeast (NE) the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays consistent through the season. On the bigger days, lined-up northeast swells throw out long left walls outside the T jetties, which is when experienced surfers get the most out of it.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
When it's small, Ichinomiya is approachable for beginners, but expect a very busy lineup when it works. It gets especially packed in summer, when the waves are smaller and beginners and longboarders fill the peaks.
Access
You'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop on hand. For parking, there's a car park with free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
