Indo Jiwa is an epic right-hander breaking over dead coral in Sopi, the northernmost bay on Morotai. The bay is an obvious swell magnet for the consistent north monsoon swells, and the wave itself delivers fast outside sections running into hollow walls. It takes its name from one of the first boat trips to the area.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north through east, and a north swell is the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, though this is a wave that wants plenty of swell behind it, both to wake up and to put enough water over the shallow reef. Consistency is moderate, so it won't be on every day you look at it, but the north monsoon keeps the windows coming.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. The inside section also cleans up when the wind swings east. Tide matters more than usual here: mid and high tide are what you want, with a rising tide the better call, since you need water covering that shallow coral.
Local Tips
This one is for expert surfers only. The reef is shallow and unforgiving, and the fast outside sections leave little room to sort yourself out. On the upside, the lineup stays fairly quiet when it turns on.
Access
Indo Jiwa sits a long trek from the village, which is enough to keep most people heading to the more consistent Serenade instead.
