More about Inland Sea surfspot

Gozo feels way more relaxed than Malta with less people, less cars, but also less surf below the breathtaking plunging cliff formations like the Azure Window or Fungus Rock. The phenomenon known as the Inland Sea is a 100m-radius semi-circular pond which looks like a quiet lake most of the year. The 60m cliff overlooking the pond is pierced with a small hole, allowing fishing boats to get out to sea. When NW or W storms hit, the Inland Sea becomes the smallest natural wave pool in the world! Sets pound into the rocky tunnel and radiate out in a perfect example of convex refraction, creating knee-high peaks over the rocky fingers of reef in the bay. A longboard and a large slice of swell and luck are needed.
