Kimmeridge Bay Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Kimmeridge Bay is a slow, crumbly peak that breaks in the middle of the bay over an uneven, flat ledge reef. Rides here can run long before fading and reforming in a new direction. It is the poor relation to the area's better reefs, so it tends to come into its own when those spots are out of control.

When It Works

The bay draws swell from south through west, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, roughly waist high to head and a half, and both lefts and rights peel off the reef. Autumn and winter are the prime months. Waves break well out, so expect long paddles, and keep an eye on the rocks and the rips that show up on bigger days. It is a decent spot rather than a standout, but the peak holds up when other breaks are maxed out.

Wind and Tide

Look for a north (N) offshore wind to clean things up. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The mellow, forgiving peak suits beginners and takes just about anything under your feet, from shortboards and fish to longboards and SUPs. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is on, with a fairly reserved feel in the water.

Access

A toll road leads down to a car park, and the paid fee covers parking, so do not head down if the gate is closed. Park above the bay and get in from the slipway. Restrooms and camping are available nearby.
