Overview
Kiritihere is a sectiony left-hand point at the mouth of the Marokopa River, on the west coast of Waikato just south of Kawhia Harbour. The wave peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and it firms up into powerful walls at the higher tides. It's a decent, consistent point that rewards surfers who link the sections rather than fight them.
When It Works
Kiritihere draws swell from southwest through northwest, with southwest swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving a wide band of usable size to play with. Consistency is good here, so there's usually something to ride when the swell is running.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to groom it clean. Without wind in it, both Kiritihere and neighbouring Marokopa Beach can turn into thumping beachbreaks, so the offshore really matters. The point favours high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call as the walls gain power.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly left, best suited to surfers comfortable reading and linking the sections down a point. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, and camping nearby if you want to stay put and wait out a swell.
