Kvassheim is a right-hand point that peels over boulders, and along with Piggy it's one of the finest waves on Jæren. Expect fast, punchy performance walls.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south to west (S-W), and southwest (SW) is the pick. South swells are the ones to chase, firing up those fast performance walls. Once the swell moves north of west the Rio Grande current sets in, the paddle turns brutal for most surfers, and the shoulder starts to fade. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. Kvassheim can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave. The best rides run 100 m or more, so most surfers walk back up the point between waves to save some paddling power.
Access
A new nature protection area has closed the road that once led right down to the waterfront, so park along the road and remember to shut the gate as you pass through. Parking is roadside and restricted. Surfing is also banned from 1 October to 31 March to protect migrating birds, the same rule that applies at Piggy. For a base, there's camping at either end of Brusan Beach, a minute or two south.
