Overview
La Barqueta is an exposed, south-facing beach break spread along a flat strand of sand, throwing both lefts and rights. It's a dumpy wave with real power, and it needs some shape in the sandbars before it turns on.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southeast through south to west, and it's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It's moderately consistent, but it won't handle much size or wind, so your best bet is to get out early before conditions fall apart.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly beginner wave, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet with hardly anyone around. Keep an eye out for the rips, which tend to swirl along the beach.
Access
You'll find it 22 km west of David: just follow the signs toward Las Olas Beach Resort on fully paved roads the whole way. There's free roadside parking when you get there.
