La Fortaleza is a surf spot located near the fishing town of Santoña. This place is known for its left-hand point break that can deliver long, but often slow waves. Keep in mind that it is extremely inconsistent, only working on the biggest swells. Sometimes, it might not even break at all in certain years. When it's on, it can get crowded, so be prepared for some company in the water.

The waves work best with a North swell direction coming from Northwest and North. It can handle swell sizes starting from around 1ft (0.3m). The break happens over boulders and sand, providing a mix of textures. Low tide is the optimal time to catch waves here, and the usual wind that makes things smooth is Northwest. This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers looking to tackle some longer rides.

Parking around La Fortaleza isn’t usually a hassle, so you won’t have to stress about finding a spot. Just take note of the strong rip running down the point, which can be a factor when you're out there. While there may not be any beach facilities, you’re close enough to town for anything you might need afterward.
