Overview
La Garita is a short right-hand point that breaks over sand. It tends to close out, though it will sometimes offer an exit, and the wave runs fast, hollow and shallow. That setup favours bodyboarders and rewards tricks thrown above the lip.
When It Works
The point draws swell from northeast through east, with east (E) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so aim for that band before you head down.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the west (W). The point works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
La Garita suits intermediate surfers best. Expect a lineup of locals when it's on.
Access
You'll find showers at the beach and roadside parking nearby. Take the water seriously here: strong rip currents and backwash churn up turbid, sandy water, and swimming isn't recommended.
