Overview
La Palue is a wide-open, west-facing beachbreak on the Crozon peninsula. Breaking over sand, it throws up long walls and the odd barrel section, with both lefts and rights on offer, making it a fun spot for intermediate surfers.
When It Works
La Palue picks up all available swells and is very consistent, easily the most reliable spot on the peninsula. It draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with west the optimal direction, and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. At low tide it tends to be messy and weaker, lining up as the tide pushes past mid.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup when it works, with plenty of campervans around and a friendly atmosphere despite the crowds. The waves suit intermediate surfers. At low tide, it's worth checking Lostmarc'h just to the north, which is rideable up to 3 m (10 ft), though beware the anti-tank barriers that recent spring low tides have revealed protruding from the sand in the surf.
