Overview
La Pointe sits at the tip of Cap Ferret, breaking over sand with a great view across to the massive Dune du Pyla. It's a beach break that peels both left and right. When very large swells wrap around the cape and push into the Bassin d'Arcachon, the inside throws up tubey little rights.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from southwest through northwest, and a west (W) swell is the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency runs on the lower side, so it can be inconsistent, but the right swell brings it to life. There are plenty more waves on the ocean side of Ferret; those break smaller than the setups to the north, though they're plagued by strong currents.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. Even then, the strong local currents can leave the rides bumpy, which is part of why the spot is popular with bodyboarders. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. Keep an eye out for submerged jetties, channel markers, and oyster bed debris around the point.
Access
Facilities include restrooms, showers, camping, a surf school, and a surf shop, and there's a car park with free parking.
