Lagoons Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Lagoons is a right-hand rivermouth break on the western edge of Bruny Island, a stretch of Tasmanian coast known for waves that hold their size better than most Tassie breaks. It sits tucked into the corner of the bay, breaking over sand, and can produce long, peeling rights when the setup lines up.

When It Works

Lagoons draws swell from the southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and the longer rights tend to show on a bigger swell when the sandbank is in the right shape. Consistency is the catch here: sitting deep in the corner of the bay, it can be inconsistent, and the nearby beachbreaks will usually be bigger.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest offshore wind. Lagoons favors the upper half of the tide, working through mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The wave suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup stays fairly quiet when it's breaking.

Access

Getting there means a ferry from Hobart to Bruny Island, a 20-minute crossing with nine sailings a day. At the spot you'll find a car park with free parking and roadside parking, plus camping nearby.
