Lakey Peak surf guide

Lakey Peak is a popular surf spot located in Sumbawa, Indonesia. Known for its consistent waves, it attracts surfers from all over looking for fun and challenging rides. The spot features both lefts and rights that break over a flat reef, making it suitable for a variety of surfers, especially intermediates. It's accessible with a short paddle of around 450 meters or you can hop on a zodiac for about $2 return.

The surf at Lakey Peak generally performs best with swells coming from the south and southwest. The waves can handle sizes starting from 2 feet (0.6 meters) up to over headhigh, so there’s usually something to ride no matter the conditions. Expect some nice lefts and rights that can deliver good barrels, especially on the right side. The wave tends to be at its best during mid tide when you can enjoy quick, fun rides. Low tide can make the right get a bit too shallow, while the left still offers some solid barrel rides. For optimal results, aim for wind coming from the east and enjoy the varying tides—low, mid, and high generally all hold their own here.

When planning your session at Lakey Peak, keep in mind that the reef can be user-friendly, though it’s good to be aware during the full or new moon phases when conditions might shift. This spot can really come alive with the right swell, offering enjoyable waves for those with intermediate skills looking to improve their surfing game.
