Overview
Las Lagunas, also known as Spew Pits, is a shallow reef break that throws short, thick-lipped barrels over an uneven reef. It peels both left and right, and threading those tubes takes genuine speed and skill. Make no mistake, this is a dangerous, helmet-worthy spot built for tube-masters.
When It Works
The favoured rights come alive on head-high swells, and they work best when the swell arrives from the north. Las Lagunas draws swell from west through north to east, but even with that wide window it only manages medium consistency. It works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind. This is a sensitive break that needs mid tide to fire properly, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Las Lagunas is strictly an expert's wave. The shallow reef, thick lip, and fast barrels leave no margin for error, so it rewards surfers who can commit and read the tube.
Access
You get a good view of the break from the old Cotillo harbour. Park in the car park with free parking or grab a roadside spot opposite the Water Deposit, next to the playground.
