Overview
Last Chance is a fast, hollow lefthander that peels down a boulder-lined point, breaking over reef. It earns its name as the spot to check when nowhere else in the area is working properly, often turning up something worthwhile when the rest of the coast comes up short. It holds up as a consistent, good-quality wave.
When It Works
The point draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), and it comes into its own on a mid-sized northeast swell, the best match here. The wave is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving it plenty of working range across smaller and bigger days.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks on low and mid tide, with mid tide the pick and a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The left suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable reading a boulder-lined point. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, and be aware that localism has been an issue here, so keep any group small and low-key.
Access
Getting down to the point is tricky. The descent crosses private farmland, so you will need to seek the farmer's permission before driving down the hill to the wave. Parking at the spot is restricted.
