Overview
Laulii is a right-hand reef break that peels over live coral. It needs a decent-sized swell before it gets going, which gives the wave room to wrap around the reef, and once it does you get fun, ripable walls that pitch on the bigger groundswells.
When It Works
Laulii draws swell from anywhere between northwest and northeast (NW-NE), with north the best direction. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and because the rights need size to wrap onto the reef, the bigger end of that range is where the walls really start to pitch. Consistency is moderate, so it won't fire every day, but the windows are there when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
The cleanest conditions come with a southeast offshore wind, though the reef also holds up well when there's plenty of east in the wind. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it works, and it sits comfortably in reach of average and intermediate surfers. If you're after something heavier, Dragons Breath sits closer to Apia and is a full-on, top-to-bottom barrel that will test even strong tube-riders, but that one is not a wave for average surfers.
