Overview
Le Crohot des Cavales is an isolated beach break tucked into a large shadow zone west of the Hourtin lake, reachable only by bicycle. The banks here may not be the hollowest or most lined-up around, but that is beside the point: this is solo surfing, a quiet stretch of sand where you can paddle out on your own. Further north, Crohot de France sits even more isolated again.
When It Works
Le Crohot des Cavales is a consistent beach break that peels both left and right over sand. It draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with west swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving it a wide working window across small and larger days.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to clean things up. The beach can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading shifting sandbanks. The lineup stays quiet, so more often than not you will have space to yourself.
Access
Getting here is a bike ride: the spot is reached via the bike paths, and the UCPA center at Bombannes offers a fairly direct route in. Parking nearby is restricted, so plan your approach on two wheels.
