Overview
Le Gouerou is a hollow, powerful wave that breaks close to shore over an uneven reef and sand bottom. It throws up a nicely defined peak with bowly shoulders, and it peels both left and right, which is part of why it draws surfers and bodyboarders alike.
When It Works
The break takes swell from southwest through north (SW-N), with a northwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, so it won't always be firing, but the good windows are worth waiting for.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind. Mid tide is the call here, with a rising tide generally the better bet. The exit gets tricky on the high end of the tide, so timing your session around mid keeps things cleaner.
Local Tips
This is an expert's wave that rewards commitment on the takeoff. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and be ready for rips and a degree of localism in the water.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking if the lot fills up. To find it, follow the signs for Lampaul-Plouarzel.
